Superheroes...

I thought about trying out different forms of illustrations other than those from children's stories, so I started exploring those of comic books and superheroes.

I painted these images with inks and used drips to convey a sense of movement. On one they are just horizontal, but on the other, I experimented with vertical drips as well.

A quick sketch of some of Jack Kirby's drawings of the X Men, exploring the positions that these characters could be placed in. I did the same for Spiderman (below) as well as seeing how his form would translate into a silhouette if I cut him out with a scalpel.

I was exploring the familiar imagery of the characters. This Spiderman logo was made with masking tape and ink.

Not wanting to stick purely to male characters, I drew a couple of female Marvel and DC characters, using pencil, and on Gemini (above) acrylic paint and cling film.
