Exploring Winnie the Pooh...

These are some more pages from my sketchbook. I started looking at E.H. Shepard's drawings for A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh characters.

This was taken from the cover page of a Winnie the Pooh Treasury I've had for as long as I can remember, I really liked the collection of characters being depicted in silhouettes. I drew it with felt tip pen, but it is reminiscent of Japanese woodblock prints - it's even been compared to Hokusai's Great Wave.

On these two pages I did some quick sketches to get to know the characters, on the bottom image, I combined eight different drawings into a single coherent scene.

I made a cardboard collograph tile and printed it with acrylic paint - I used the corrugations to make Tigger's stripes.

These were experiments with breaking down the forms in the drawings and making silhouettes. I tried to use both the positive and the negative space to create the images.

At College, we were tasked with reworking the same image 32 times in different ways and with a limited number of media.
